Installation Architectural Graphics

3D Modeling

About

The architects from corporate do not do a good job calculating space and communicating final designs. When it gets shipped off to operations, the folks there can barely understand the documents, and can never produce a correct bill of materials, even sometimes missing crucial parts. As a field merchandiser who is responsible for installing the display, it ends up causing extra time and frustration for not being able to complete a simple task. Then, of course, corporate gets angry at the people on the field for not doing their jobs correctly.
Another problem is culturally, we are shifting away from reading, which explains why there are so many mistakes. The company also does not hire qualified people to ensure the diagrams are accurate. They don't work with field survey folks.
This is my proposal to change things for the better. From my experience with being in the field, putting up installations, and my technical design background, I quickly modeled accurate 3D models. By using visualizations from the very beginning, everyone can be on the same page. And, as opposed to excel sheets and lists that use technical jargon, a picture translates much better across different disciplines.

Solution

I took it upon myself to make up a spatially accurate 3D model with proper dimension and annotations so that the entire pipeline knows what this is supposed to look like. It took me less than 3 hours to make this graphic from start to finish.

Configuration 1

Picture
There is a way to embed 3D models into the handheld software we use. Here's exactly what we can do. Our company uses a private Salesforce app. You can make a custom component that embeds HTML, just like below.

Configuration 2

Here is a second configuration. The field merchandiser may think that this install is missing parts, however, the final design has a gift wrapping section. With this one page, the confusion between the two configurations, that are both 24', is quickly dismissed.
