SAE Blue Devil Motorsports
The Blue Devil Motorsports is an organization at my university which consisted of four teams: Baja, Aero, Formula, and Formula Hybrid. I requested to become an observer to understand some of the engineering factors behind the vehicle, and in exchange, I would do various design/graphic arts tasks for the teams. I spent the majority of my time with the Baja and Aero teams.
After seeing some of my drawings, the team requested to see my idea for the body. This is my rendering of the body design.
In order to gain a sponsor to create the body panels, the team captain, David, requested me to create a small turn around animation.
Problem was, the only CAD data they could give me was the chassis and the body, so I had to model everything else as well, and then render.
Turns out we were successful and our team was supplied with carbon fiber to make the body shell from.
this car was made in real life.... and it works!
After applying some coloring to a snapshot from their 3D model on the computer, the team came up with this color scheme for their plane this year.
At one point, I attempted to create an animation for Formula. They had only body CAD data to give me so I had to model the chassis and wheels. Below is my version which was done in 3Ds Max.
This is a snapshot of a quick alias model I did of the body design of Hybrid's car.
